Frustration over being unable to find brand artwork has resulted in a Kiwi company building a unique and free online resource for designers and brand owners.
LogoSauce was launched last month to provide the global design community with a place for logo designers to showcase their designs, admire others, comment and discuss logo design, and gain inspiration. It has already attracted a solid following with members in the UK, Romania and the US, as well as New Zealand.
David Vaassen, CEO of e-see International said the original idea was to create a brand directory, “much like a yellow pages for brand images”.
He explained that there are already one or two resources of that type for brands, but annoyingly, none displayed images. “That was when we decided to building LogoSauce instead.”
He hopes that the Web 2.0, social networking ethos of LogoSauce would prove a rich forum for generating new ideas; .
“We want LogoSauce to be the laboratory that identifies new techniques ”
He said the aim was to quickly build user-supplied content through its blog and comments sections. Eventually he hopes this will reach a “tipping point” where LogoSauce would gain a life of its own and really take off.
The LogoSauce is built on the Ruby on Rails Framework using open source tools. “This is the hottest framework for building web pages,” said Vaassen. “You can change things quickly and easily, making it ideal for small teams like ours.
